Outlander Skirts and Shawls - Aug16
This commission for two Outlander TV Series inspired skirts using plaid
fabrics - for the Iplehouse SID woman (62cm).
The gray/black/blue plaid skirt was made with the full width of the fabric, gathered into
the fitted waistband. The waistband closes snugly in back with a hook and eye. The length
was set to be floor/walking length.
A shawl was made from the fabric by 'fringing' the edges. The edges were then embroidered -
with different thread colors on each side - along all edges. According to my research, women
wore both a square fabric as a triangular shawl - doubled; or a longer wider rectangular
fabric possibly worn over one shoulder and belted.
The tan plaid skirt was made with the 45" width of the fabric, gathered into the fitted
waistband. The waistband closes in back with a snap. The length was set to be floor/walking
length.
The tan plaid fabric made a larger square piece for a triangular shawl. The edges were
also hand fringed, and then embroidered, again with two different thread colors.
My SID Large Bust Model, Rachel (SID custom Doria, peach), is modeling the skirts and the shawls.
She is wearing low heels. The white lace chemise in the photos was not included.
